Aeonium castello-paivae 'Lily Pad' (often misspelled "paddy") is a rare, compact, clump-forming succulent from the Canary Islands. It features small (up to 4 inches), vibrant green to yellowish-green, fleshy, cupped rosettes that often display pink margins in bright sun. It grows up to 12 inches tall with branching, woody stems.
Key Characteristics & Care:
- Appearance: Distinctive, wavy-edged, spoon-shaped leaves forming thick, rosette heads.
- Color: Green leaves that develop pink or reddish margins under high light stress.
- Growth Habit: Compact shrub-like growth, reaching up to 1 foot tall and wide.
- Light: Prefers bright, direct sunlight to maintain compact form, but can handle light shade.
- Watering: Requires infrequent watering, allowing soil to dry out completely between waterings.
- Soil: Thrives in well-draining cactus and succulent potting mix.
- Flowering: Produces small, white, star-shaped flowers in late spring to summer, after which the flowering rosette dies (monocarpic).
Tree anemone grows best in full sun during the cooler months and when grown in castal areas. Aeonium arboreum is a tree link succulent which forms branched stems upto to 3 feet tall.
